Multi-Media Photography / Contemporary Mermaids / Los Patos Surrealistas

Contemporary Mermaids

"Contemporary Mermaids" is a visual interpretation of
lovely women, with the aura of mythic mermaid legends, swimming with tropical
fish in exotic waters. accompanied by Undersea Music.

The marine colors are vibrant and the images fade mysteriously in and out of reality.  December  2012.

"I must be a mermaid.
I have no fear of depths
and
a great fear of shallow living."

Mermaids are wonderful marine creatures found in fables
in every culture in the world throughout history.

There is a wealth of mystery and allure to these beautiful creatures.

Delving deeper into the mythological lore,
mermaids are quite contemporary in their independence;
especially of spirit but also of how to live one's life true to
one's personal aspirations, unrelated to any norm.

The mermaid is alluring,
because she is not only delicately feminine,
but also exceptionally intelligent and engaging,

quite self-sufficient
and a formidable adversary, if crossed.
The mermaids wanted to be loving,
but were never willing to be caught in a net of any kind.

In responding to creating mermaids,
there are ephemeral and real qualities  ~
a genuine spirit,
a loveliness of person,
an enthusiasm for life,
a quest for something out of reach,
a warmth and vibrancy,
a living in affirmation,
and a trust that these photo collages would be
a visual art to make one wonder about the
magic of life under the sea,
and a belief that living life every day could be blessed
... as a mermaid.

"Los Patos Surrealistas" is a philosophical ~ photographic journey,
of the intelligentsia of ducks, who form an artistic, social, and political vanguard of elite ducks, touring around the Iberian Peninsula from
Madrid with surreal quotes and highly surreal portraits and dramatic Spanish
landscapes~ the intrigue of The Duck.
I've always looked upon the Ducks as
caricature human beings.

Perhaps I've been years writing in that middle world that J.R.R. Tolkien describes, and never knew it.
Carl Barks

Insight into "Los Patos Surrealistas"

What is Surrealism?
"In my opinion, it is above all a reawakening of the
poetic idea in art, the reintroduction of the duck but in a very particular
sense, in Spain, and of the strange and illogical."
Adapted from ― Paul Delvaux

Great ducks need great sorrows and burdens,
or half their greatness goes unnoticed.
It is all part of the fairy tale.
Adapted from ― Peter S. Beagle, "The Last Unicorn"

"You take ducks, you put them on a journey,
you give them peril, you find out who they really are."
Adapted from ― Joss Whedon

"The real painter is he who’s able to patiently
paint a pear surrounded
by the tumult of duck history
in Spain.

Nada hay más surreal que la realidad.

There´s nothing as surreal as reality."
Adapted from ― Salvador Dali

 "A duck in España-
and, I believe, generally all ducks -
must think that whatever happens to him is a resource.
All things have been given to us for a purpose,
and a duck must feel this more intensely."

Mysterious is the duck who holds the moon in his web and reaches for a star.
Surreal ducks have stories to tell, stories that provide wisdom about the
journey of life.  What more have we to give one another than our 'truth'
about our adventure as honestly and as openly as we know how?

Tell me what you yearn for and I shall tell you who you are.
We are what we reach for,
the idealized image that drives our wandering.
